CLICK TO DOWNLOAD This aircraft depicts a Typhoon Mk.IB (Trop), Serial No.DN323, one of three aircraft shipped to North Africa in April 1943 for trials, with Philip Lucas, P/O Myall and pilots of No. 451 Squadron RAAF, at Aboukir, Idku and L.G.106. Squadron codes were never applied, and the Typhoons never went into combat in North Africa.

CLICK TO DOWNLOAD This aircraft depicts a Typhoon Mk.1b, Serial No.EJ981, Code SA-F, of No.486 (NZ) Squadron RAF, 26/2/43 to 20/11/43. This aircraft suffered an engine failure and crashed at Eartham, written off - pilot unhurt. Personal mount (at times) of Squadron Leader Desmond James Scott, DSO, OBE, DFC(bar), CdeG(France & Belgium), OON(Ned), MiD - from Cheviot, New Zealand. On the 1st of April 1943 Scott took command of the Squadron and in September the same year he was promoted to Wing Commander and appointed Wing Leader of the Tangmere Typhoon Squadrons. He finished WW II as Group Captain. Desmond J. Scott died on 8th October 1997.

CLICK TO DOWNLOAD This aircraft depicts a Typhoon Mk.1b, Serial No.JP689, Code SA-P, of No.486 (NZ) Squadron RAF, 9/43 to 10/2/44, based at Tangmere, Sussex, England. On 10/2/44 the pilot, F/S William Swinton, forgot to switch over to wing-tanks and when he finally did, the engine failed to pick up. He crash-landed near Melun and was badly burned. F/S William "Rangi" Swinton, from Raukokore, New Zealand, was taken in by a French family, and when his injuries healed the French Resistance stepped in to help him escape. Close to the Spanish border, 3 months after the crash, Rangi was captured by the Gestapo on 17/5/44.

CLICK TO DOWNLOAD This aircraft depicts a Typhoon Mk.1b, Serial No.JR152, Code SA-Y, of No.486 (NZ) Squadron RAF, 3/11/43 to 13/2/44. This aircraft was hit by flak near Cormeilles and force-landed at Tangmere. The pilot, F/L William Miller, DFC, from Invercargill, New Zealand, was unhurt.

CLICK TO DOWNLOAD This aircraft depicts a Typhoon Mk.1b, Serial No.MP126, code ZY-Y, of No.247 Squadron RAF, December 1944. This unit was based at Eindhoven. This particular aircraft was flown by S/L B. G. Stapleton.

CLICK TO DOWNLOAD This aircraft depicts the Typhoon Mk.1b, Serial No.R7752, of No.609 Squadron RAF, early 1943. This aircraft was flown by Squadron Leader R.P. 'Bee' Beamont. The Squadron Leader's pennant and the squadron's white rose and hunting-horns badge were displayed beneath the windscreen. Beamont further personalized the plane with his 'scoreboard' and yellow cannon fares and spinner. Early 1943 black and white ID-stripes and the No.609's unique white chin flash were also attached, making this plane one of the rare more colourful ones in the RAF.
