In loving memory of Halyag Mária, my Grandmother.

I would like to dedicate this high resolution model of the Me-109E "Emil" to my Grandmother.

She was born a long time ago, none of you were living then. She had lived through World War One, the Great Depression and Wold War Two. She had also been through the so called "Happy Socialism" Freedom War in 1956, the 'Cold War', the end of the Soviet Union and the finaly a democratic Hungary.

She was born on the 12th of June 1911 at Kápolna. She was the youngest of 6 children. She lost 3 of her brothers and a sister. Her Father, a soldier, and one of her brothers died during WW1. At the age of 11 she lost her Mother. From then the eldest Brother kept the family together. Each of them had to work, despite their young age. After the dark days of the Great Depression she had the chance to study in addition to working. She finished the "Draughtsman" school and had the chance to work at the Weiss Manfréd Steel Company, where she changed from being a mechanical Turner to being a designer. When the WWII had started she was making plans for parts of the Reggiane Re-2000 "Héjja". During those days there were no photocopiers available and each copy was hand drawn. After the occupation of Budapest the Russian Forces "liberated" it (and stayed there for almost a half century). She had to hide at her brothers house at Kápolna. The Russian "liberators" had not shown a difference between friend or enemy. For them there were only three things: Vodka, Women, War. The first was drank, second was raped, third was to kill. Finally, WWII ended and with it the throwing of bombs, shooting of bullets, and the killing people.

She then met a young, thin boned man, who had recently returned from the Russian Prison camps. They fell in love and were eventually married in 1948. They had a Daugter, my Mother. During 1956, as some of you may know, there were a few, long days of a freedom war in Hungary, when Hungrarian people rose up against the occupying Russian forces. While the fighting went on in the streets of Budapest, she helped as a nurse in a local Hospital, trying to heal the wounded freedom fighters. When the Russian forces came back and gained controll of the country, the family once again had to hide in Kápolna at her Brother's home. My Grandfather was a Leader of the Freedom Fighters during this period and if caught would have been immediatley executed. After two years at Kápolna the Family moved back to Budapest, because the "renewed" Weiss Manfréd Steel Co., now called the Csepel SteelWorks, needed draughtsmen. My Grandfather couldn't get any normal work other than the lowest level physical jobs, because he was fighting against the Russian Forces in '44. So the Family were forced to live on her earnings only.

At the beginning of the 1970's the russian politics/dictature started to cool off. The Familys of the steelworkers had a chance to buy a piece of land to build houses. My Grantparents started to build their first, very own home, but for this they had to much. They were working in three shifts: one day, and one night and in the remaining time they were building the house. During this time my Grandfather was retired. When the Home was nearly ready my parents got married. In 1974 their first son was born and almost two years later, their second child was born. Originally the house had two levels, the lower one has a garage, washroom, kitchen and a gest room. On the second level there was the bigger living sphere, with three rooms, a separate kitchen and a separate bathroom. My Grantparents lived on the second floor and my parents had the lower one. Because, from the salary of a military pilot and a studying medical high school student, they couldn't get their own house or flat. When my Lil' Brother was due to arive, my Grandmother stood in front of her husband and said: "If we don't change places with the young ones, I'll go back to Kápolna, to my Brother!". My Grandfather, even if he wasn't happy with this, agreed. While my Mother was studying, my Grandparents were taking care of us. They took us to nursery and kindergarden and later to school, when our parents did not have enough time due to working.

In 1987 my Grandfather died. From then on things started to move fast as I grew up. During 1989, Socialism ended in Hungary. My Grandmother was still working for the Csepel Steelworks Co., but more out of passion. She was eventually retired in 1993, at the age of 82, after many years of hard work. Because of her hard will she was in a perfect condition, both physically and mentally. One day she stood in front of me and said: "I want to learn how to use the 'miracle machine'!" - She wanted to learn how to use the computer. And She did. When MicroSoft bought out their Home Design software, she used it to plan and draw a completely new high, and a modified lower level to the House. In 1994 the house was modified to her ideas and plans.

The whole family celebrated the year 2000 together. I will allways remember the words that she said: "Come here all of you. I want to tell you the reasons to live. I had a long life and seen many toubles, many bad things. Wars, death, moneyless times, hopeless situations. But believe me, there is only one thing that will survive and will make everybody survive... LOVE."

Last year, during Autumn, she was dianosed as suffering from liver-cancer. Today, on the day of God, 18th of April 2003, at 10:35 A.M. Hungarian Local time, my Grandmother left this ugly world of ours, after a long illness.

My dear and only "Nagyi". I will never forget you!
Please help to teach the people what is important!

Mr. Johnson.
