This model depicts a Douglas Boston
Mk.III of No. 88 Squadron, RAF, Circa 1942. This Squadron flew this aircraft
type from 1940 to April 1945 and was one of only 4 RAF Squadrons to do so.
Employed as medium and low level bombers, this Squadron was in constant action
over France and the low countries. Later in 1944 they became a part of the 2nd
TAF and provided tactical air support the Commonwealth armies advancing into
Germany.

This model depicts a Douglas A-20A of
No.22 Squadron, RAAF, which began operations with the A-20A in New Guinea
1942-43. They also flew Boston III versions. This group was re-equipped with
Australian built Beauforts in 1944. Flt. Ltn. W.E. Newton won the Victoria
Cross, the Commonwealth's highest honor on March 16th 1943, flying with this
squadron. During this mission he and his gunner, Sgt. J. Lyon, were shot down
and captured by the Japanese. Flt. Ltn. Newton was beheaded and Sgt. Lyon was
bayonetted to death by the Japanese as their punishment for being captured. The
Australians adopted the USAAF gun nose conversion for their A-20's. It carried
6 .50 claliber machine guns in the nose and was used for low level missions
against Japanese barges, shipping and other installations, and other ground
attack duties supporting the Australian Army's advance against Buna. They were
used both as a strafer and bomber.

This model depicts the Douglas A-20B
'Lady Jean', a glass nosed medium altitude bomber of the 47th Bomb Group, 12th
Air Force, USAAF, shortly after they arrived in North Africa in 1942 for
tactical air support. The Group used the A-20s at first for medium altitude and
low level bombing missions, and later when news of the successful gun nose
conversions made by the 89th Squadron for their Pacific theater A-20's reached
them, converted a number of their A-20B's to ground strafers.

This model depicts a Douglas A-20B Havoc
was with an unknown unit of the VVS-VF Northern Fleet Air Force, Arctic Front,
1943 -'44. Not much is known about Soviet operations with the A-20 Havoc. They
used it both as a strafer and bomber to good effect. Almost half of all A-20's
produced were sent to the Soviet Union under lend-lease, many going to the
Soviet Naval Air Force.

'Bill', which was Bill was an A-20J from the 644th Bomb Squadron, 410th Bomb
Group, 9th Air Force USAAF, named after the young son of the pilot. The 410th
BG flew medium altitude bombing missions first from England and later from
captured airfields in France after the invasion. Most missions after the
invasion were tactical to support Allied armies advancing into occupied France.
She was shot down by flak and made a forced landing in liberated France in
1944. It is thought that the gunner was either killed or seriously wounded in

This model depicts the Douglas A-20J
'Helen', which was A-20J from the 645th Bomb Squadron, 410th Bomb Group, 9th
Air Force USAAF in 1945. The 410th BG flew medium altitude bombing missions
first from England and later from captured airfields in France after the
invasion. Most missions after the invasion were tactical to support Allied
armies advancing into occupied France. By 1945, German ground movement was done
at night to elude the rover fighter bombers that blanketed what was left of the
western part of the Third Reich. The 410th switched a number of their aircraft
to night interdiction missions flown singly instead of by formations of
bombers. The planes carried flares, which they would drop over highways, and
then proceed to bomb any traffic they found. A number of these planes were
painted overall black in the field for these missions - 'Helen' was one of
