Some basic things before we start:
I strongly recommend that you make yourself familiar with the utility PicPac and how skin-files are converted to tpc-format, as I will cover this in detail. More detailed information in how to use it can be found in the "Read me" file of PicPac itself and in the specific part of the tutorial found below.
I will work exclusively with Jasc Paint Shop Pro 5.03 or higher as I think it's an easy program to use and has all the features needed for EAW-skins and more. You canobtain the 30-day shareware version from www.jasc.com or on several shareware-CD's, if you do not want to buy it. Believe me, you can use Paint Shop Pro for more than just skins...

Although it is not absolutely necessary that you first read the 'basic skinning tutorial', I do recommend you have a look at it before you give the other sections a try. Most of the important techniques are explained in this section.
