It was only over Dunkirk, and for the first time, that the Luftwaffe faced determined opposition in aircraft which were equal to their own. In Poland and France the Luftwaffe had faced enemies who did not want for bravery, determination, and skill, but whose planes were generally if not hopelessly outclassed. Over Dunkirk and the channel the Luftwaffe met sustained and effective opposition, and for the first time it was not only checked, but its stratiegic objective was defeated, although it failed to draw the correct conclusions about the use of bombers and Stukas, a lesson it had to relearn during the renewed struggle with the RAF later that Summer. The air battles over France and the Dunkirk beaches during 1940 were the prehistory to the Battle of Britain later that year. The purpose of this addon is to establish a theatre for May-June 1940 and provide historical single mission packages for Axis and Allied air forces at that crucial time. The first and principal part of the package deals with the air combat in and around the Dunkirk Evacuation, the first true combat between the Luftwaffe and the RAF.

PLEASE NOTE: 1. Some of the downloads are split into smaller zips and are recombined into the original file by using a 'Join.bat' file. Some Anti-Virus software detects these 'Join.bat' files as being suspect. However, this seems to be an anomally in some AV software only. All files on this Site have been scanned using the latest Norton AV 2002 software before uploading and were declared virus free. 2. Most of the setup archives below are zip files split into numbered parts each about 700+KB in size. This has been done to ease the task of downloading. For these files it is necessary to download all the parts for each zip and recombine them with the batch file provided. Note that the zip file numbers may not be the same as the file number it contains. This is because the first file is always "file.000". Detailed instructions are given in the installation readme. Some zips are small enough not to require splitting and recombining.
