HEINKEL He.111B 'PEDRO' |
(Version 3 with improved 3DZ and skin) - This aircraft depicts a Heinkel
He.111B 'Pedro', one of 100 B and E models provided by Germany to the
Nationalist forces during the Spanish Civil War. These aircraft, along with
their "volunteer" crews, flew with K/88 of the Condor Legion. In May of 1938,
mixed German and Spanish units were formed and in August of that year a wholly
Spanish unit was formed on the He.111B and E models - Grupo 10-G-25. In Spain
the Heinkel was known as the "Pedro" as a result of the phoney passports issued
to the German personnel. For some reason, all He.111 crews were given the first
name of Pedro, while all the Ju.52 bomber crews were given the name Pablo. A
number of the first He.111's in Spain had the name Pedro painted on the nose in
large block letters. This particular aircraft was flown by Lt. Fuhrhop. The
emblem on the tail commemorates the crew's mascot, a Scotch Terrier dog named
Peter, who was killed by a bullet fired by a Republican Polikarpov I-16 during
a bombing raid over Segunto on 13th June 1938. This aircraft has a new 3DZ model and skin, created by Captain Kurt, from the original EAW model. (HE-111 Slot) |
