Tempest V, serial JN854, code SA-G, No. 486 (NZ) Squadron, Newchurch, 25/6/44 to 5/7/44.

6 1/2 V-1's were shot down with this plane.

Not a regular plane of any particular pilot, there were at least 6 who flew it. However on the 5th of July the plane was piloted by W/O Cornelieus Sheddan of Waimate, New Zealand, when the air intake took in a spent shell (Sheddan shot down a V-1) and the plane crash-landed and exploded at Netherfield. Sheddan was seriously injured in the incident, but recovered. On 2nd May 1945, S/L Sheddan took command of the Squadron until it's disbandment in October 1945.

The source I had is the cover painting of the book "The Wild Winds", it shows JN854 from 5 o'clock position chasing a V-1.
