Tempest V, serial JN743, code SA-V, No. 486 (NZ) Squadron, Tangmere, 21/1/44 to 28/2/44, pilot F/L Francis Murphy, OBE, DFC, from Wellington, New Zealand.

For this short period, the Squadron received 5 Tempest V's which were later passed on to No.3 Squadron. On 3rd February three of the five Tempests V flew in a flock of birds at Tangmere and were out of action for the rest of the month. While it remains unclear, it is said that this incident was the reason why No.3 Squadron was first fully re-eqipped with the new airplanes, and not No.486. This particular plane survived the war only to be sold for scrap in July 1947.

The only source I had is a b/w photograph from 45 left front view.

*** 'non-mirrored code' version, thanks to Stewart Nunn! ***

.) Added Stewart Nunn's 3dz files for non-mirrored codes.

.) Added Dan Shaw's clearglass for the gunsight.

.) Added Migge's new Tempest cockpit instruments.

I couldn't do the black/white stripes on the under-carriage any better, but after all in EAW it's too thin compared to the real one.

Hope you like it.
