High Resolution P-51B w/Malcolm Hood

--------------------------------
Note: P51B Mustang, "Bonnie'B' II"
This skin represents the P51B Mustang, "Bonnie'B' II", of the 354th.FG, 353rd.FS, The Pioneer Mustang Group. "Bonnie'B' II" was unboubtedly one of the longest lived and most successful, Mustang to serve in the ETO. P-51B-1 43-12375 assigned to Capt.Donald "Buzz" Beerbower in early 1944. He used this machine until it was shot down by flak 9th August 1944.

Last mission profile:
While on a morning armed reconnaissance sweep, "Bonnie'B' II" was leading a strafing action against a Luftwaffe occupied airfield near Reims. On her third pass, after destroying two gun emplacements and a Ju88, "Bonnie'B' II" was dealt a fatal blow from heavy defensive ground fire. Capt.Beerbower being forced to bailout too low either hit the tail of his fighter and knocked unconscious or reached the ground before his parachute had deployed. Either way he was found dead by German soldier. On this mission Capt.Beerbower was acting as Squadron Commander of the 353rd.FS. At the time of his death, Capt.Donald "Buzz" Beerbower was just 17 days shy of his 23rd birthday.
Donald Merrill Beerbower 15.5 kills, 354FG; KIA 9/Aug/1944

Note: Skin Circa
This skin represents the "Bonnie'B' II" as she appeared mid July 1944 at Criqueville (A2) Normandy, France. At that time she displayed the 15 victories already achieved by Capt.Beerbower. The bulk of which were obtained with this aircraft.....

At the time of the Normandy Invasion the 353rd.FS's Mustang markings were the 12" yellow ring, yellow propellor boss and the prancing pony on the vertical stabilizer. The imperfections shown on the Invasion Strips were due to their field application just two days prior to the Invasion. Capt.Beerbower's Bonnie"B" invasion striping was also unique because of a 2" spacing between each strip.

The aircraft's colour scheme and Squadron markings where derived from a coloured aircraft profile plate found in the 2002 Osprey Aviation Elite #7 Publication "354th.Fighter Group" series by William N.Hess. The colours are as accurate as possible with the use of standard EAW Palette. Further reference material came from a 1973 Squadron/Signals Publication "Aces of the Eight" by Gene B.Stafford/William N.Hess...

Note: Skin Use
This HiRes skin was created for the P-51B Slot for the skies of the "Normandy Campaign" created by Emil.
However, it could be used in any other campaign P51B-slot.

The new High res 3dz set for the P-51 B is based on the same 3dz's from the P-51 D, with a few changes to get the look right, and incorporate the Malcolm hood sliding canopy. The cockpit 3dz's have also been altered to add a few changes I thought neccessary -
1. Wide view armour added
2. Bars removed to match Malcolm hood view,
3. "Deflection" type gunsight/instrument panel
4. High res wingview added.

Note: Skinner's Remarks
Although my part of this project was to create the skin of Capt.Beerbower's Bonnie"B".
I was able to use the original pcx. files of "P51B_357FG. OldCrow" downloaded from Jeff"Salty"Salter's Sandbagger Host Site

 http://eawhostsite.0catch.com/salty.html

"Bonnie'B' II"  would not have been possible if it weren't for the brilliant creative efforts of;
John "Chompy" Masters for creating the original HiRes P-51D model....
Jeff"Salty"Salter for the great textures which make up the base skin and the MEX file....
Mr.J for his Malcolm hood version of the D (the C.3dz uses this) and for his transparency ideas on non-TEX files....
JWC for the wide view armour idea....
Peregrine for the Adjusted Reticules K-14 gunsight....
Migge for the cockpit and guage textures....

My thanks to them all....
