The XP-41 was a modification of the last P-35 built.

The aircraft's center fuselage was redesigned and had lower profile "greenhouse" canopy.

The XP-41 also had an R-1830 radial engine with a flush-mounted turbo-supercharger mounted in the belly with an air inlet in the left wing root. Finally, the aircraft discarded the P-35 landing gear partial aft retraction scheme in favor of a fully retracting inward landing gear.
