Westland Whirlwind MkI for the P38H slot in European Air War

This Westland Whirlwind replaces the P38H in EAW, and is intended for use with ECA (Enemy Coast Ahead) Control Panel. The Whirlwind takes the place of the P38H, using ECA Control Panel v3.4 or later.

To install, just unzip the *.TPC and *.3DZ files in this zip file and copy them into your EAW directory (the one with EAW.EXE in it). To un-install, simply remove those files from your EAW directory.

You will have a new aircraft 3D shape, with two alternative non-mirrored skin, new 3D cockpit, and a transparent shadow file. The skin PCX files are included, if anyone wants to create a new skin.

EAW editing work of this sort would not be possible without Alessandro's essential utilities, the Converter and 3DZ Studio, Paulo's 3DZMap and Scaler utilities, PicPac, and the help of many others in the EAW community. The sharpened instruments are by Angeleyes. The Whirlwind shape and skin are by me. The shape uses the EAW Me410 as a base, scaled down by a factor of 0.8, to achieve the right dimensions.

History of the Whirlwind
The RAF's first twin-engined fighter, the Westland Whirlwind entered service in July 1940, with No.263 Sqn. At low level the Whirlwind had few equals for speed, but it was plagued by its unreliable Rolls-Royce Peregrine engines. Only 112 were produced, and it equipped only two squadrons (No's 263 and 137). With its concentrated battery of four 20mm cannon in the nose and a bomb-load, the Whirlwind was widely used as a cross-Channel raider in 1941-43. No.137 Sqn re-equipped with rocket-firing Hurricane IV's in June 1943, and No.263 Sqn with Typhoons in December 1943.

Two aircraft skins are provided in this zip file. The default is a green and tan camouflage scheme of a No.263 Squadron machine, in the winter of 1941-42. The second is a green and grey camouflage scheme of a No.137 Squadron machine, in 1943. The two JPG pictures show you the general look of each skin.

I hope you enjoy the Whirlwind. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments.
