Spitfire VIII, A58-600, with 457 Squadron at Labaun in mid 1945. The squadron moved to Labaun Island from Morotai in June to provide air cover for the allied amphibious invasion of Brunei in North Borneo.

This aircraft wears its original RAF camouflage of Dark Green, Ocean Grey and Medium Sea Grey undersides. Of note is the 32 inch fuselage roundel with 50:50, blue/white proportions. It appears the red centre of the original RAF roundel was over-painted with white and the outer yellow ring with matching camouflage colours. Another unusual feature is the very wide white leading edge strip on the underside of the wing and the absence of No. 80 Fighter Wings ace of spades emblem on the rudder. The white strip was almost certainly a thin strip on the upper surface. Like other aircraft in the squadron it received a white tail band and spinner either at or just prior to moving to Labaun from Morotai.

This is modeled on the great set of 3dz's made by Col.Gibbon, with a new distance view and new Spinner made by him also. It also has a retracting rear wheel.
Thanks also to Mike 'Sandbagger' Norris (MSC) for all his work in hosting all these files for the EAW community.
