Here's my version of Mr Johnson's HR Skin for the Messerschmitt Bf 109G. Thanks go to him for all the original work. Thanks too, to John 'Chompy' Masters for his kind efforts in trying to explain the 'basics' of applying the correct pallettes. I finally got the gist of what he was saying!

This version depicts the Messerschmitt Bf 109G-6 of the Adjutant of JG2 in Poix, late june 1943. Kurt Buhlingen. He later went on to be the Kommodore of JG2 till the end of the war with a total of 112 credited kills.

Enjoy.

The following is Mr Johnsons original message:-

-------------------------------------------------
Hoi There!

I Would like to dedicate this Plane to: my Burned-Out Computer called: Diogenes... He was the Best what i have ever used, was working for Two Years and Thirteen Days without any problems. had frozen exactly 27 times... In the Heaven of the Computers, Rest In Peace! one day We'll calculate that RS together again!

So the High Resolution Me-109 is ready. i have used the "Erzsike" 3dz as the basic, and splitted up the 3dz to 5+1+1 parts. 5+1+1 because of: 2 for wings; 2 for the fuselage's back; 1 for the front fuselage; and the +1 is the Canopy; And a 1 to 1 fit wing view. They are the following in alphabetical order, plus their texture files:

P109GA.3DZ - P109GA.PCX/TPC - right wing
P109GB.3DZ - P109GB.PCX/TPC - Left wing
P109GC.3DZ - P109GTEX.PCX/TPC+P109GTRA.PCX/TPC - Canopy
P109GE.3DZ - P109GE.PCX/TPC - Fuselage/Tail Left
P109GF.3DZ - P109GF.PCX/TPC - Fuselage Front
P109GG.3DZ - P109GG.PCX/TPC - Fuselage/Tail right
P109GU.3DZ - P109GWIN.PCX/TPC - the Virtual cockpit's wings.

in this zip You will find:
Canopies [DIR]
G10 [DIR]
G6 [DIR]
Wings [DIR]

C2.BAT
P109GA.3DZ/PCX/TPC
P109GB.3DZ/PCX/TPC
P109GE.PCX/TPC
P109GF.3DZ/PCX/TPC
P109GG.PCX/TPC
P109GU.3DZ
P109GWIN.PCX/TPC
P109GTEX.PCX/TPC
P109GTRA.PCX/TPC

In the Directories:

"Canopies":
another Two Directories, named:
Erla [DIR]
Standard [DIR]

the reason why i have created these this very "funny" or "Dumb" way is:

For the ERLA Canopy i have created two solutions:
- or Convert the Me-109G slot to a K Slot. with adding all the 3dz-s and texture and transparency files what using the K's transparency and the Distance models..
- You can Use the Me-109K slot's texture file, meanwhile You are using the "regular" Me-109G propellers(outside and the from the cockpit views).

NOTE: I Want to mention that the later G6s had this ERLA or Galland type of Canopy too.

in directory "Erla":
Gslot [DIR]
Kslot [DIR]

in Dir. "Gslot":
P109GC.3DZ - these are the files what's using the 109G Slot as a 109K.
P109GL.3DZ
P109GP.3DZ
P109GR.3DZ
P109GS.3DZ

in directory "Kslot":
P109KC.3DZ - This file uses the 109K slots texture and transparency files. IT MUST HAVE to be renamed before usage!
My recommendation: extract the files to a Directory and copy P109KC.3DZ to Your EAW Directory as P109GC.3DZ

in Directory "Standard":
Lucky You! only one P109GC.3DZ is waiting for You. it's using the Me109G slot's texture and transparency files.

"G10" Dir:
P109GE.3dz
P109GG.3dz

i have modified the Tail of the Plane, just as it Would be a Wooden Tall Rudder.

NOTE: I Want to mention that the later G6s had this type of tail too.

"G6" Dir:
P109GE.3dz
P109GG.3dz

the "original" 3dz-s if You are using this type of tail and You want to be historically correct, then edit the tailgear's picture to be the short bumped one.

P109GU.3DZ-I have Modified the Virtual Cockpit's Wings 3dz file to be able to just to copy and paste the wings on the skin FROM the Wings texture file. (oh, and don't forget one thing: the upside should be copied and not the down. ;) )

C2.BAT- It has been created to Picpac all the used pcx files to tpc.
NOTE: if You are using the Me-109K slot's Erla/Galland Canopy that skin won't be Picpac-ed!

Copy the Chosen files of Yours to Your EAW Directory and Have Fun!

For the Skinners: IF You have decided That You are going to make a Skin to th HR 109...

So some extra tutorial.

the Skin has a modifed palette, the 256th colour was changed to the weird Neon Green. This is used as the Background colour of the whole Plane. and this is responsible for the transparency of the Gears and the Tailgear(s) and the Aerial and the Radio wires.

If You want to have a Short poled Radio antenna just erase the "original" and redraw the wished one. the important thing is the Background Color!
on the left wing there is the pitot Tube located in front and besides the wings.

i recommend You to Think Twice before You start skinning. the Best Way is to do HR Skin is to think Over EVERY IDEA What's came up.

first cut out every skinfile togeter to 1 BIIIIG one. and then start modifying... the rest is up to You.

so Happy Flying and Good Skinning!

Mr. Johnson.
