        3dfx P 51 D / R.A.F. Mustang IV files for European Air War.

This Mustang IV , "Dooleybird" , designation QV-V KM272, from No. 19 Squadron, was flown by Flg. Lt. J. Dooley, based at Peterhead/Molesworth, May 1945.

I made a 1/72 model of this aircraft as a kid, and it's taken me until now to produce a decent model for it on EAW. - well, it's the best that I can do. Even though there have already been two great versions of "Dooleybird" released, I have a TNT2 M64 graphics card, and decided to make a skin that would use up those pretty blues that the TNT card offers. This 3dfx version is not quite as nice, but still looks quite good.

I would like to thank the makers/modifiers of the Pp51df.3dz file - firstly Cord Hartmann and Salty, then LLv34_Doc, Red Eyes, and Claudio Wilches. Thanks to these guys for producing a great 3dz for me to work with. I aslo modified the 3dz myself, re-mapping and re-aligning textures, mainly on the nose/cowling area, shifting and adding a few panels, plus dozens of other fiddly little bits. A big thankyou to Allesandro Borges for his 3dz Studio, and Converter tools which made this work possible, and to Cord Hartmann for some very helpful 3dz tuition via E-mail.

Also thank you to Salty, Claudio and the unknown author of the original "dooleybird" - evin1@earthlink.net, for their great PCX files from which I borrowed to varying degrees, and thanks to Migge, for the use of his cockpit instruments. Also thanks to JWC for the use of his wide view armour 3dz's.

I have also included the latest cockpit files for my Dooleybird project.
I have modified the wing view 3dz file so that there is no warping (I hope!). This gives better control over the wing cammo you can use, but the textures have less detail. If you want to modify it for other P-51's, you simply copy the main wing from your standard non mirror pp51dtex file, and paste it into the required spot on the pp51dv file. The leading edge will also have to be re-done and put in the appropriate spot.
If using this for USAAF mustangs, the KM272 will have to be blanked out in the pp51dvtr file (or disabled with 3dz Studio), and the old spot for the "star and bar" will have to be "un-blanked" - that should be a piece of cake for a whizz like you!

  The files include :-

pp51df.3dz New 3dz for RAF mustangs
Pp51dtex.pcx and .tpc Main aircraft skin
Pp51dtra.pcx and .tpc Main transperancy file - needed for KM272 panel
Pp51dv.pcx and .tpc cockpit wing views with simplified wing skinning
pp51du.3dz 3dz file for the new cockpit wing views
Pp51dvtr.pcx and .tpc cockpit transperancy info - needed for blanking the wing insignia
and enabling the KM272 panel on the right wing
Pp51dx.pcx and .tpc cockpit instruments file, modified by me.
pp51dv.3dz JWC's wide view armour kit
pp51dw.3dz JWC's wide view armour kit
