EAW.XML - a Shoot 1.6 (voice recognition software) profile for Microprose's European Air War.

"Squadron - drop tanks", "Wingman - break left", "Three - target fighters", "Two - target bombers", "Select all guns", "Squadron - ENGAGE!!" . Yep, as quick as that, you can excercise full control of your aircraft and your squadron, without your hands having to reach for the keyboard! All with Shoot 1.6

This file is suited to my eaw.ini keystrokes, which I think are pretty close to the defaults. If your controls are mapped to different keys to mine, they will not work, however, all of the radio command (Tab) voice controls should work fine.

Of course, you can easily edit this EAW.xml file to your suiting, by opening it up with notepad. By looking around, you will soon see how it all works.

I have written in voice commands for all the Tab radio commands, Flight, Weapon, Targeting, HUD, Nav, Miscellaneous controls, amd have made up some messages for Multi player Chat. That's 189 different voice commands all up, and pretty much every keystroke you could need. Due to the slight delay, some of the commands like "fire guns", snap views, engine, and panning are best done with your stick, so I have left them off.

Installation -
Extract the EAW.xml file to your Shoot 1.6 profiles directory (usually C>Program Files>Shoot>Profiles), then run Shoot and hit File > Open, go into the Profiles folder and load the EAW.xml .

Set a button on your stick to "NumLock" on the keyboard - this is the "Press To Talk" button for Shoot. Alternately you can toggle the mic ON or OFF with Scroll Lock on your keyboard. If you prefer to use other keys, the mic section is at the bottom of the profile.
Also note that I have set the mic sampling rate to 44100 (for my Win98 problems). You may want to alter this value (The sampling rate can be any of the following values: 11025, 12000, 16000, 22050, 24000, 32000, 44100, 48000) or even delete the line altogether.

If using Roger Wilco or Teamspeak, program it to use a Press to talk key, and make sure that it is NOT ScrollLock or NumLock, as you cannot have two applications using the mic input line at the same time. This means you will have one button for Shoot 1.6 transmissions, and one button for RW/TS transmission. This may or may not work, depending on your drivers, soundcard, OS etc. , but is worth a try.

If your voice command has been recognized, you will hear a click. If it hasn't been recognized you should hear an alert sound (but I don't for some reason). If using PTT activation, make sure that you release the button after you have completely finished your phrase, because if you chop off that last little bit of a word, Shoot probably won't recognize it. Doing some training with Shoot (Speech>Recognizer>Training) will help Shoot get used to your voice and increase it's accuracy.

To view a printout of each command, it's voice prompt, and it's keystrokes, check out EAW.doc (requires MS Word), or EAW.xls (requires MS Excel).

If you have trouble getting EAW and Shoot to work together, it is probably because of the sampling rate. Try starting EAW first, then ALT TAB out and start up Shoot, and go back into EAW. This forces Shoot to use the sampling rate that EAW is using.

If you have problems, refer to the trouble shooting and documentation page at the Shoot 1.6 site http://clans.gameclubcentral.com/shoot , or drop me a line.
