1939 POLAND CAMPAIGN

ECA Panel 3.4 compatible addon for EUROPEAN AIR WAR - Microprose

The 1939 Poland Campaign replaces the Battle of Britain Campaign with one starting
in September 1939, with the start of the German invasion of Poland. The aim of
this campaign is to simulate the air and air to ground war on the Polish front.

The Poland Campaign is a modified 1940 campaign, with different aircraft.
It starts in early September 1939 and ends during the second half of the month. In a normal
campaign you fly a mission every 2 days, if you choose a long campaign be you fly a mission
every day for a total of 20-25 sorties.

This Poland Campaign is ofcourse not 100% historically correct, but it should be more
historically correct to play than a Battle of Brittain or 1943-1944 campaign of the original
EAW with Polish aircraft skins applied.

When you play this campaign DO NOT select Limited Supply or you may not have bombs to carry.
I would like to quote Charles Gunst on this : "Did you join up to be a fighter pilot or
a supply clerk anyway?" :)

Known "problems" or inaccuracies with this campaign:

1. EAW doesn't seem to accept dates previous to 1940 as defined in the Sq**4*.dat and
Camp**4*.dat files. You can define the date of September 1939 to appear in the campaign
start menu but then the campaign itself will happen during March of the year 8110.
This is why the campaign will unfold itself in September 1940. I thought it would be
better to fly in September 1940 than in the 9th millenium.
2. By hex editing the Sqgr40.dat and Squk40.dat files you can change the kind and percentage
of missions your squadron will fly. However this rule is not 100% accurate.
Your squadron will allways have to fly some other missions even if they're not defined
in the Sq**40.dat file. As example : the 151 Fighter Squadron will have to fly enemy
truck convoy interdiction missions even if they're supposed to fly 100% enemy bomber
intercept missions. I suppose that this is somehow "hardcoded" and I do not know how
   to change this.
3. The PZL P.24a did not fly in the real Polish 1939 campaign. Although it was used by
countries such as Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania and Greece, it was never used by the Polish
Air Force. The armament, speed and other flight characteristics were much better than
the characteristics of the P.11c, which was the main fighter of Polish Air Force in
September 1939. This situation was so unbelievable that even in the German aircraft
recognition manual 'Flugzeugerkennungs-Tafeln' from 1939, the P.24 was listed as a main
Polish fighter plane! However, P.24 was only offered for export and was built under
   license in Turkey and Romania.
I included the P.24 in the campaign in so that you can fly a more powerful aircraft to
repulse the German Messerschmitts. This is the same reason why Woolfman designed this
aircraft. You will only be able to fly the P.24 yourself. The plane will not show up as
as an adversary in a German campaign where you will allways encounter the P.11 as
opponent. You can only change this aspect of history if you fly the aircraft yourself.

Use ECA Control Panel v3.3 to select the Polish aircraft. Do this by using "Global
Changes"/"Polish" or by individually selecting the various aircraft options as
follows:

Hurricane:	PZL P.11c

Mosquito:	PZL P.37b
P51B: PZL P.23b

INSTALLATION AND USAGE INSTRUCTIONS

To use this addon you need to have an install of EAW patched to version 1.2 level.
Enemy Coast Ahead 1.4 and ECA panel 3.4 or later need to be installed.

FIRST : select the Polish planes with ECA Panel as described above.

SECOND : To install just copy the following files that come with this Poland1939.zip file into
your EAW directory :

AIRFIELD.DAT : Information wheter an airfield is Alied or Axis owned, made by Dominique Legrand

BRTLNAME.STR : These 2 files give you Polish names, and are made by Stanley99
CAMPGR40.DAT
CAMPUK40.DAT
CARQUOTE.STR
FRNTLINE.DAT : This is frontline #22 made by Dominique Legrand
LOADOUT.DAT

Say yes to overwrite files with the same name in your EAW directory.

THIRD : DO NOT REOPEN ECA PANEL TO CHANGE HOMEBASE OR PLANES AFTER YOU COPIED THE CAMPAIGN FILES
INTO YOUR EAW DIRECTORY. IF YOU REOPEN ECA PANEL SOME CAMPAIGN FILES AND OTHER SELECTIONS WILL BE
OVERWRITTEN AND THE CAMPAIGN WILL NOT FUNCTION AS IT SHOULD.

IF YOU WANT TO MANAGE YOUR SQUADRON DO NOT USE ECA PANEL, BUT USE CHARLES GUNST'S FIRST UTILITY
EAW PILOT THAT YOU CAN DOWNLOAD FROM AIRBUDDHA'S HANGAR.

To uninstall this addon delete all the above mentioned files from your EAW directory and
reinstall the following files of Enemy Coast Ahead 1.4 :

LOADOUT.DAT
SQDESCGR.STR
SQDESCUK.STR
