1942 TORCH CAMPAIGN

ECA Panel 3.4 compatible addon for EUROPEAN AIR WAR - Microprose

The 1942 Torch Campaign replaces the 1943 ETO Campaign with one starting
in November of 1942, when Operation Torch takes place with the landing of Allied forces
in North Afrika. The aim of this campaign is to simulate the air and air to ground war in
the North Africa between German, British and American air forces.

The Torch Campaign is a modified 1943 campaign, with different aircraft. It starts in
November 1942, when Operation Torch starts and the Americans enter the Mediterranean war and
ends in May 1943 when the Axis surrenders in North africa.

All German, American and British aircraft will participate in a significant number of
air to ground bombing and interdiction attacks. Ofcourse also a significant number of sweep,
escort and intercept missions will be flown. Among the ground targets are for both sides :
airfields, radar towers, radar stations, convoys, trucks, trains, warehouses, fuel dumps,...

This Torch Campaign is not 100% historically correct, but it is certainly more
historically correct to play than a Battle of Brittain or 1943-1944 campaign of the original
EAW with desert terrain and desert aircraft skins applied.

When you play this campaign DO NOT select Limited Supply or you may not have bombs to carry.
I would like to quote Charles Gunst on this : "Did you join up to be a fighter pilot or
a supply clerk anyway?" :)

Use ECA Control Panel v3.4 to select the North African aircraft. Do this by using "Global
Changes"/"North African", and by individually selecting the various aircraft options as
follows:

Hurricane:	Hurricane IIc or IId (depending on the variant you prefer)
Spitfire I:	P-39 Q Airacobra (don't forget to change nationality from British to
American with EAWAircraft Edit by Jeroen Van Soest)
Spitfire IX:	Spitfire Vb
Tempest:	Kittyhawk II
Mosquito:	Wellinton Mk I
P51B: P-40E (or P-40N if you like to cheat a bit)
P38H: P-38H

P47D: Hurricane I
B26: B-25 Mitchell
Bf109E: Macchi C.202
Bf109G: Bf109F4 or Bf109G2 (personally I HATE the flight characteritics of the G2
A LOT and would choose the F4)
Bf110C: Bf110F1
Me410: Me-210A1
FW-190A:	Fw-190A4
Ju87B: Ju-87D7

INSTALLATION AND USAGE INSTRUCTIONS

To use this addon you need to have an install of EAW patched to version 1.2 or 1.2a level.
Enemy Coast Ahead 1.4 and ECA panel 3.4 need to be installed.
To install just copy the following files that come with this Torch1942.zip file into your
EAW directory :

AIRFIELD.DAT
BRIEFING.STR
CAMPGR43.DAT
CAMPUK43.DAT
CAMPUS43.DAT
FRNTLINE.DAT
LOADOUT.DAT

SQDESCUS.STR
SQGR43.DAT
SQNAMEGR.STR
SQNAMEUK.STR

Say yes to overwrite files with the same name in your EAW directory.

To uninstall this addon delete all the above mentioned files from your EAW directory and
reinstall Enemy Coast Ahead 1.4

PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS:

1) While playing a BRITISH campaign, after a flown mission and while choosing to fly the
next mission in your barracks or office (if you're Squadron Leader) a crash to desktop
will sometimes occur. This happens only in a British campaign; while I was testing the
campaign it did not happen in German nor in American campaigns. This occurs both with
the older EAW 1.2 and with the new EAW 1.2a patch.
The best solution is to restart your computer (to get rid of remnants of EAW, EAWStab,
EAW 1.2a, other utilities you use) and to reload the campaign after clicking on it to
select it (even if there's only one campaign to choose from). You might have to repeat this
procedure 2-3 times (maximum 3 times while I was testplaying the campaigns) to continue your
campaign.
This crashing to desktop kept on reoccuring both when using a renamed Campuk40.dat or
the original Campuk43.dat file. The only difference was that when I used the original
Camp**43.dat files the missions for the Germans were mainly heavy bomber (B-25) intercepts
and for the Allies (you guessed it already I suppose) mainly heavy bomber escort missions,
more or less independent of the Sq**43.dat definitions of the missions.
That's why I used modified and renamed Camp**40.dat files that offer more varied missions
in the campaign.

2) The amount of missions seems to be fixed. You will fly a mission every 2 days both in
normal as in long campaigns. This means a total of 50-60 missions. This may have to do
something with the fact that this is the first campaign I make for three airforces and
that I use Camp**40.dat files modified and renamed to Camp**43.dat files. Maybe this is
the same reason why the British campaign crashes sometimes.

For both problems I do not have permanent solutions other than restarting your computer
when you British campaign crashes or to fly a mission every two days if you like it or not.
