Fiat G.55 "Centauro", Sottoserie 0 , M.M.("matricola militare" = serial number) 91059, "red 12", 353a Squadriglia 20 Gruppo, 51 Stormo Regia Aeronautica (Royal Italian Airforce), based at Ciampino(Rome) July 1943

In April 1943 the 353rd squadron was the first unit to be equipped with the new fighter. It is skinned as it looked like before the fall of Mussolinis Fascist regime. After 25 July 1943 the Fascist emblems were subsequently to be removed from wings and fuselage. The unit flew sorties during the struggle for Sardinia, against the Anzio bridgeheads and was intended for the protection of Rome. All serviceable G.55s were confiscated by German authorities one day after the Italian surrender in September 1943 before the pilots, following the order of Superaereo, were able to carry them across the allied lines to Southern Italy.
