Fiat G.55 "Centauro", "red 12" of 1a Squadriglia I Gruppo Caccia "Asso di Bastoni" (Ace of clubs), Aviazione Nazionale Repubblicana,
Reggio Emilia July 1944

Coming from Sq. "Montefusco-Bonet" and II Gr.C., these aircraft were incorporated into 1a and 3a Sq. as a stop-gap, pending a planned re-equipment with the Bf 109 that in fact materialized only six months later. A german camouflage system RLM 74/75/76 and yellow engine lower sides were applied over the Italian "verde oliva scuro" (dark olive green) for uniformity purposes and as protection against friendly fire by Axis AA units. This unit also kept the Italian three-digit numbering system.
