Fiat G.55 "Centauro" Sottoserie 0, M.M. 91058 "yellow 1", 2 gruppo 2a squadriglia "Diavoli Rossi" (Red Devils),
flown by Sergente Pilota Rolando Ancillotti, Aviazione Nazionale Repubblicana ANR, based at Bresso (Province of Milan), April 1944

This aircraft was not delivered to the Regia Aeronautica, but stayed with FIAT/Aeritalia. After the armistice in September 1943 it was confiscated by the Germans and repainted with Luftwaffe insignia. Being delivered to the newly-formed ANR in Januay 1944 the plane was marked with the insignia of the Mussolini-ruled Italian state. Photographs of this particular plane in the Italian wartime aeronautical magazine "Ali" (Wings") are clearly showing the roughly overpainted traces of the different ownerships and thus the history of the aircraft.
