Welcome to the JIM7217 solution, and msn filemaker.

If you have OAW the E-12E7217JIM goes into your OAW folder.
The JIM folder and the JIMMSN program go into your EAW folder.

OK- here's what happens!

The 7217 fixed eaw.exe cannot display all of the screens correctly.
You can click on Single Mission, then right click on the next screen and then select an aircraft to fly.
In the hangar screen which appears next you can right click again, and select fly. Off you go!
The problem is when you want to change the mission parameters, especially the target and your home base.

The solution is to have it all set up beforhand in a "*.msn" file in Savedata.
Irrespective of which plane you selected, instead of selecting "Fly" you select "Mission Parameters".
At the bottom of the screen which then displays you see "Load". Click it, and you will see a small panel containing a list which is hard to read but you should be able to click it and select your saved mission. Then you click "OK!" at the bottom left of the small panel.
The panel disappears, right click and find "Fly" and select it.
You will now be flying with the settings you chose.

The advantages of this system!
All planes are selectable, even the bombers. However, to fly them you need some additional cockpit and hangar screens, and some sqXXYY.dat files. These are in the E-12E7217JIM folder, and would be loaded when you select it as your eaw.exe.
Note that JIMMSN can be used by players without the 7217 problem, but the additional screens are not needed.

The JIM folder:

This contains some screens and configuration files which the JIMMSN program uses. It also contains some default str and dat files plus the eaw.tm and the eaw16.hm files.
These files in the JIM folder will be used if any with the same name(s) are missing from the EAW diectory. However, JIMMSN will work with files in the EAW directory in preference to those in JIM.

Making a selection map:
If JIM does not find one it will automatically make a "MyWorld.bmp" file by reading the eaw.tm and eaw16.hm files. If one is already present it will load it immediately.
JIMMSN will read targets.dat, airfield.dat, and tarnames.str to display the names and locations of targets and airfields on the map. It also reads pnames.str to get the list of aircraft available. If you have loaded a new scenario, such as DAW, and the map is now incorrect (loaded from a European eaw.tm) you can force the program to re-draw it. The drawing/redrawing process is slow, and it may take a little time if you have a slow PC.

Setting up and saving your mission:

On the mainscreen picture (which displays as soon as the map has been loaded) imagine it is broken into 5 columns of equal width. From the four on the left you can select the four types of aircraft involved (Yours, your support, enemy #1 and enemy #2). Move the mouse over the picture and you will see the names appear. You are told what you are selecting, and what is already selected in the panel at the right of the screen.
In the fifth column (on the right of the picture) moving from top to bottom you can bring up the other selections such as "Year" through to "AAA level".
When one is active, clicking the mouse will move you through the possibilities, and the last one you see is what you have set.

Moving over to the map screen you can select your home base and your target. Go back to the main screen, give your file a filename (without ".msn" which will be added automatically), and a short desciption such as "Spits vs Emils". It is this description which EAW displays when you want to load a "msn" file, and not the filename.
Then click the big yellow "Make *.msn" button.

You can then either hit Fly which will run EAW or hit EXIT.

The only other button you need to bother with is the Remove default msn files.
EAW automatically makes these and stores them in the Savdata directory each time you fly a single mission. This means that a whole lot of other files will appear in the selection list when you are trying to load the one you made. Clicking this button removes them, and makes yours easier to find- it may be the only one.
