New model P51A - Allison Engined Mustang _1st Air Commando Group_10thAF_Burma

This P51A represents a machine flown by Col. Philip Cochran, commander of the 1st ACG. The 1st ACG operated in Burma from March 1944 to May 1945 supporting Major General Orde Wingate's Burma offensive. They didn't have much air opposition to give them a chance to run up big aerial scores but they did get a number destroyed on the ground. Cochran himself scored 2 victories in North Africa before leaving there to take command in Burma.

This P51A was developed from work that was done by George Lekko, aka "Geo", to heavily modify the old PAW Mustang 3dz. His generosity in offering to modify the 3dz files to allow for a EAW style prop and transparent canopy, led to further refinements, such as the non-mirror effect, fixture of single insignia, and correct drop tank/bomb placement. Cord did the shadow file for the P51.

Geo's efforts and skill provided a great base for me to work with to further complete the P51B shape. I have now made the Merlin engined P51B into the earlier Allison engined P51A. Claudio Wilches had done a 3 bladed prop A-36 conversion of the original EAW P51B, and I used his method for making a three blade prop from a four blade to make the nose for this P51A. I added a new correct nose shape and spinner and changed the wing tips, oil cooler and rear deck shape slightly to more accurately capture the P51A's shape. I also made the 1st Air Commando Group skin for the new model.

Claudio also helped by making the new medium distance model, which now has a spinner and clear canopy.

To use, just copy and paste all .3dz and .tpc files into the EAW main directory.

Cheers

Captain Kurt
