Alternative FM for Andy's Battle of Britain, add-on for Microprose European Air War - by Greybeard - 3 june 2006

WARNING!
This update requires previous version of my alternative FM for Andy's BoB (ABoBfmGB). If you already don't have, download it from Andy's BoB site at Sandbagger's EAW Frontlines. To install, unzip all files into your EAW - Andy's BoB patched directory, overwriting existing files. Keep apart "Graysight" folder: it contains all files needed to give a gray tinge to 109 and now also 110 gunsight glasses; install only if you like.

Version 2
Carefully revised ranges, setting historical combat radii and realistic fuel burn rates for Hurricane, Spitfire and Emil. More rounded spinner and improved instruments panel for Spitfire. Corrected base location for I/JG52 (Wissant, although should be Coquelles) and III/JG51 (St. Omer, as historical). Allowed Bf 110 combat power of 1000 HP constant from sea level up to 13000 feet (indeed it slightly varied up and down around this value, but this isn't doable in EAW) plus minor changes to its weight, range, fuel consumption and FM parameters. Now historical Bf 109 E and Spitfire I (see "features" below). Revised roll stability and removed "adverse yaw" effect for all above mentioned fighters.

ESCORT BUG
I found EAW having problems to join toghether escorting and escorted flights, seemingly when target is too close to home base and this happens frequently in BoB environment (e.g.: Wissant-Dover is about 60 km). I managed to correct airbase locations for a couple of bomber squadrons, but something doesn't match about airfield names and I got only partial success.
Often Ground Control reroutes you toward an enemy flights shortly after take-off, before rendez-vous with bombers; it seems this encounter is mandatory, according weird algorithms of EAW. My recomendation is to try to follow your leader, avoiding to be embroiled in a losing fight against those enemies (since your mates will abandon you); your leader will turn back on his steps, eventually joining bombers. Then you'll be finally allowed to perform your mission.

FEATURES
Much matter of compromise, it is based on Knegel's RP2.5 for Andy's BoB, featuring revised flight and damage models only for the "big three": Emil, Hurricane and Spitfire. They were picked from other flight models of mine, so they are really 109 E-7 and Spit V, while Hurricane Ia, well, is just it!

DM was revised for these fighters on the basis of a US Navy study, reported on a well known A. Price's book. Guns power was refined according to an Anthony Williams study.

Also 109 E "range bug", which allowed it to perform missions out of its actual range, has been revised. Fuel consumptions are all real.

Roll rates have been corrected to get more historical performance. Bf 109 E cockpit internal range of view has been increased to make viewable lower instruments.
