Sukhoi Su-2 : information from the Russian aviation museum

Light monoplane bomber. It was developed through series of prototypes from the ANT-51
when P.O.Sukhoj became a head of an independent team. Design and trials were carried out
under heavy secrecy restrictions. Designed as a first strike aircraft, Su-2 was unknown not
only to the Luftwaffe, but also to Red Army pilots. The first aircraft scored by famous ace
A.Pokryshkin was a Su-2.
Obviously a transitional aircraft, it saw intense combat in the Great Patriotic War until
front line attack regiments were re-equipped with the superior Il-2.

The Su-2 suffered heavy losses - mostly because it was forced to operate without escort
fighters during messy 1941. Indeed, there were only two Soviet bombers (attackers) capable
to survive under those conditions - the fast agile Pe-2 and the well armored Il-2.

Over 2,000 Su-2 were built, it was retired in 1942.

This skin is based on the excellent Fairey Battle Mk. I skin by Woolfman
and a color profile emailed to me by Alan Dwornick.

This aircraft occupies the P-47C slot that will present a Su-2 in the next version.
