This represents the mount of 1st Lt. George Defabio, VMF 213, USMC, based at Guadalcanal, during July 1943. Lt. Defabio is credited with three Zeros shot down during June and July of 1943. Although individual aircraft were asigned to pilots within a unit, it was seldom the case that they flew them on their assigned missions. The Operations Officer would allocate pilots any servicable aircraft available, without reference to numbers and names of the fighters concerned. However, Defabio happened to be flying this aircraft when hit by flak over Munda Island, in the Solomons, in July 1943.

This aircraft is to be used in conjunction with Charles Gunst's Enemy Coast Ahead, version 3.1. Use the ECA panel exe. program to configure the P51D as an F4U. Be sure to download the 3dz files to the EAW directory, along with the TPC files, so that the correct 3D model is used.
